Dosing

Recommended vaccination schedule, based on your child’s age:

For infants aged 2 months to 5 months, there are two possible dosing schedules. During the next appointment, talk to your doctor about vaccination against meningitis B and the dosing schedule that is right for your baby.

  • Infant aged 2 through 5 months (2 doses +1 booster)

    PRIMARY IMMUNIZATION
    2 primary doses*†- Each dose is 0.5 mL
    At least 2 months apart
    1 booster dose – (0.5 mL)
    Required in the 2nd year of life after an interval of ≥6 months from the last injection of the initial course. 
    * The initial course can also be given as 3 injections with ≥1 month interval between the primary doses. A booster dose should be given in the 2nd year of life after an interval of ≥6 months from the last injection of the initial course.
     † The need for, and timing, of further doses has not yet been determined.
  • Infant aged 6 through 11 months

    PRIMARY IMMUNIZATION
    2 primary doses – Each dose is 0.5 mL
    At least 2 months apart
    1 booster dose – (0.5 mL)
    Required in the 2nd year of life after an interval of ≥2 months from the last dose.
  • Child aged 12 through 23 months

    PRIMARY IMMUNIZATION
    2 primary doses – Each dose is 0.5 mL
    At least 2 months apart
    1 booster dose – (0.5 mL)
    Required after an interval of 12 to 23 months from the last dose.
  • Child, adolescent, or adult, aged 2 through 25 years

    PRIMARY IMMUNIZATION
    2 primary doses – Each dose is 0.5 mL
    At least 1 month apart
    1 booster dose – (0.5 mL)
    May be considered in individuals at continuous risk of exposure to meningococcal disease.

Potential side effects

Like all vaccines, BEXSERO may cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

When BEXSERO is administered, very common side effects* (affecting more than 1 in 10 people) your child may experience at the site of injection include:

  • pain/tenderness
  • redness of the skin
  • swelling of the skin
  • hardness of the skin

* Reported in all age groups from 2 months through 25 years.
